Term: 8 weeks
Hours: 35 hours per week
Program Hours: Between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (shifts scheduled within these hours)

Position Summary

The Child Care Worker Level 1 supports the daily operations of WINGS Daycare and contributes to a warm, safe and inclusive environment for children who have experienced the impacts of family violence. This position works under the guidance of the Child Care Manager and experienced Early Childhood Educators and provides hands on support that promotes emotional wellbeing, healthy development and meaningful play.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support Trauma Informed Child Care

  • Help create a calm, predictable and welcoming environment for children

  • Interact with children using patience, compassion and an understanding of trauma informed care

  • Encourage children to express their feelings safely and respectfully

  • Model positive social behaviour and kindness

2. Assist with Daily Routines

  • Support children during meals, rest time, transitions and outdoor play

  • Help guide children through daily schedules in ways that promote comfort and stability

  • Assist with hygiene routines when appropriate and in accordance with WINGS policy

  • Prepare materials for activities and help maintain clean and organized spaces

3. Facilitate Play Based Learning

  • Engage children in creative, educational and age appropriate activities

  • Encourage participation in play that builds confidence, communication and social skills

  • Support activities that promote early literacy, numeracy and problem solving

  • Help children build positive relationships with peers through cooperative play

4. Promote Safety and Wellbeing

  • Maintain awareness of children’s needs and surroundings at all times

  • Follow all WINGS safety procedures and provincial childcare regulations

  • Bring any concerns about safety or wellbeing to the Child Care Manager immediately

  • Contribute to a physically and emotionally safe environment for every child

5. Work Collaboratively with WINGS Staff

  • Communicate respectfully with families and team members

  • Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities and reflective learning

  • Share observations with supervisors to support coordinated care for families

  • Contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment

6. Support Cultural Safety and Inclusio

  • Welcome children from diverse cultural backgrounds with respect and openness

  • Help incorporate culturally meaningful materials and activities into the space

  • Demonstrate understanding of cultural humility and inclusive practice

7. Assist with Documentation and Program Support

  • Help maintain attendance records and activity logs as directed

  • Support basic reporting needs for program evaluation and CSJ requirements

  • Follow strict confidentiality guidelines to protect the privacy of families

8. Professionalism and Skill Development

  • Demonstrate reliability, maturity and responsibility

  • Seek guidance when unsure and be open to learning

  • Participate in training related to trauma informed childcare, child development and domestic violence

  • Build skills that support future work or study in childcare, social services or education

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of child care experience

  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required

  • Child Intervention Check required

  • Ability to work in a compassionate, team-oriented, and confidential environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Interest in child development, social services, or education

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
